Open Source & Research

We believe that the infrastructure for community food hubs should be a public good, not a walled garden. Here is how we build it.

The AGPLv3 License

EqualEats is licensed under the GNU Affero General Public License v3.0. This means you are completely free to run the software for your own village, modify it, and study it. We chose AGPLv3 specifically to prevent large supermarket chains from proprietary-boxing our work without giving their improvements back to the community.

The Source Code

All infrastructure code, from the smart cart resolution algorithms to the Next.js frontend, is completely open. If you are a developer looking to contribute to a decentralized food system, we need your help.

Caddisfly Collaboration

EqualEats is informed by ongoing research into environmental humanities, supply chain ethics, and sociology. Our core flows and interaction design are guided by academic and lived research on how communities effectively self-organize.
